why are Schleifenbauer PDUs so efficient?

Economy with power is in the genes of our multiple sockets. Not only do we look extremely minutely at the energy efficiency of the production of our PDUs, we have also made sure that they use no more power than is strictly necessary during their life cycle.

What is the use of an energy-efficient PDU if the power consumption of the connected equipment is many times higher? We hear this question quite often. Naturally, it is true that often several kilowatts of power go through our multiple sockets, so why do we bother to save 20 or 30 Watts per PDU? We list our motives below:

  • A PDU is switched on and in principle, never goes off again during its life cycle. A saving of 20 Watts thereby becomes a saving of 1750 kWh per PDU during its lifetime.
  • Our clients often use large numbers of PDUs. In a data centre where 1000 PDUs are used, which save 25 Watts compared to a competing product, 35,000 euros in power costs are saved (0.16 ct/kWh), not including the costs of cooling.
  • Excess use of power is transformed into heat. Some PDUs are so hot that they cannot be touched. All this heat in the data centre has to be cooled down using air-conditioning.
  • Then there is still the matter of principle: an instrument that has to be switched on in order to use less energy may not waste power itself of course.
